Obviously if this question had been asked fifty years ago it would have had one meaning. European history, identical with the hsitory of europe, was that of its peoples and cultures and limited, or not, to the lands that they occupied. The history of Europe is very much important because it was the ways things happened that can explain the world that we live in today.
